Forms Field Guide
A form is a mutation to the body, powered by magic, and it can happen to anyone. What follows is a guide to the ones we carry.
Forms sit alongside the species guide rather than inside it. A species entry describes what someone is; a form entry describes something that happened to the body they have. The two answer different questions, and each leaves the other alone.
Five things hold across every entry here.
Every form is a mutation, and wild magic is what produced it. That shared origin is what makes them one category rather than a list of unrelated oddities. Wild magic is the raw, untamed magic that predates the pure magics, and it works the way weather works — a force of nature acting without intent behind it, which is why every form arrived rather than being designed.
A form is independent of species and breed. Any form can in principle appear in any being, whatever they are. Species has a bearing on neither which form someone carries nor whether they carry one at all, and a form stays a mutation to a body rather than becoming a kind of creature in its own right. Where a form’s mechanics meet something a species already does, the two sit alongside each other.
A form leaves everything a species or breed already fixes exactly as it was. Whatever someone’s species settles — an element, a magic carried by everyone of that kind, a capability that comes with being what they are — stays settled and stays whole. A form adds what it adds, and the rest carries on untouched.
One being can hold more than one form. They stack the way the pure magics stack and the way affinities do, and carrying one leaves the rest open.
A form arrives of its own accord. It may be present from birth, whether inherited or not, or it may come later in life through wild magic acting on someone who did not have it before. Either way it happens to a person rather than being sought, earned or decided on, and it marks nothing about them.
Where forms sit in the system
A form is a change wild magic made to a body rather than a magic someone holds, so it sits outside the structure the magic reference sets out — apart from the fundamental affinities, the extra forces and the pure magics alike. Some forms bring a magical capability along with them, and the entries say so where that is true, though the form itself remains the mutation rather than the power.
Temperament belongs to the individual here exactly as it does everywhere else in this guide, and it bears saying again for forms in particular. A body invites a reading in a way a species does not — one that yields, one built for impact, one that flows. Each of those describes a body. How any of us uses what we were born with, or woke up with, is ours alone, and it belongs on our own pages.
-
Bioforged
Living biotechnology grown into the body rather than fitted to it — and born, never made.
-
Elemental
A body that is the element — not a body tied to one.
-
Hybrid
Two creatures held on one living spectrum, with an anthropomorphic form at the end of it.
-
Liquiform
Solid, liquid, or anywhere between — and the same creature at every point on that range.
-
Morphic
A body that resizes, reshapes and softens at will — and cannot be crushed.
